Manuela’s glossy black hair reminded Godfrey of the lake behind his house. Her lips took on a ruby-red hue that was in stark contrast to her pale skin. He imagined himself running his hands through her hair, sniffing it. The thought thrilled him but he knew she wasn’t ready yet. For now, he would watch her and wait. He watched silently from across the room as she took a bite of her pie, the filling spilling from the corner of her mouth; cherry. He licked his lips and tasted it. Soon, they would share a slice.
